چکیده

Biometrics are traditionally employed in user authentication and authorization mechanisms. The vast majority of research effort focuses on applications of biometrics in authentication, aiming to replace passwords as the access control mechanism for cryptographic keys in one way or another. However, the inherent variability in biometrics presents a readily available source of randomness, which, in theory, can be exploited for random number generation. The aim of this paper is to present an overview of the field, propose a new method for random sequence generation using fingerprints, and estimate the entropy of fingerprint shift and rotation, which are seen as key factors contributing to the security of the produced keys.

Collusion-Resistant Fingerprints Based on Real Superimposed Codes

We use random superimposed codes as sequences for collusion-resistant fingerprints. This approach is more suitable in comparison with the use of some other regular sequences (as WBE-sequences) against watermark removal attacks and traitor tracing is done through the sphere decoding algorithm. The performance evaluation of the proposed method is presented and the simulation results show an accep...

Investigation of an apparent cluster of Klebsiella pneumoniae bacteremias using random amplified polymorphic DNA analysis.

A cluster of bacteremia episodes with Klebsiella pneumoniae was noted in patients in a hematology-oncology ward during a 3-week period. Random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis, a novel technique for generating chromosomal fingerprints from bacterial isolates, was used as an aid to the epidemiological investigation of this cluster. For each of the two patients from whom multiple isolate...

Fingerprint databases for theorems

“Fingerprint, in the anatomical sense, is a mark made by the pattern of ridges on the pad of a human finger. The term has been extended by metaphor to anything that can uniquely distinguish a person or object from another.” [26]. Suppose thatM is a mathematician, and thatM has just proved theorem T . How is M to know if her result is truly new, or if T (or perhaps some equivalent reformulation ...

Generating Random Genomic Sequences and Structures with GenRGenS

Random sequences can be used to extract relevant information from biological sequences. The random sequences represent the “background noise” from which it is possible to differentiate the real biological information. For example, random sequences are widely used to detect over-represented and under-represented motifs, or to determine whether the scores of pairwise alignments are relevant. Anal...
